Swatantra Veer Savarkar Movie Review:
It’s not easy to tell parts of the life of a divisive historical figure. However, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s biopic, Swatantra Veer Savarkar, directed by Randeep Hooda, takes on the task, of attempting to analyze and elucidate the major moments in his life. The result is a three-hour biographical film that succeeds in many areas but finds it difficult to hold your interest throughout. The story, which spans more than a century and includes the pre- and post-independence periods from 1857 to 1966, is shamelessly told from the protagonist’s highly contentious point of view. And it does it without batting an eyelash, particularly when it presents him as a revered guy with views that many people may not have first agreed with but would later come to terms with. Consequently, Swatantra Veer Savarkar becomes a biased account that doesn’t care to give a fair assessment of the contributions made to India’s freedom movement.
Savarkar movie box office collection Day 1
The film is anticipated to perform well at the box office due to its powerful dialogue and images. The movie made almost 17 lakh India net on its first day across all languages, with an overall Hindi occupancy of 8.80 percent on Friday, according to box office tracker Sacnilk.com.
Conversely, 14.33 percent of Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’s Friday occupancy was Marathi.
Randeep Hooda directed the film, which was co-produced by Legend Studios and Anand Pandit Motion Pictures. Ankita Lokhande and Randeep Hooda play important roles in it.
The movie’s premise
Savarkar was a writer, activist, and politician who supported Hindutva and the philosophy of Akhand Bharat, or united India. He disagreed with Mahatma Gandhi’s nonviolent views and beliefs and supported an armed revolt to overthrow British rule. But, thankfully, the movie doesn’t support or promote the notion of violence.
It throws light on the sacrifices and contributions made by the armed revolutionaries, who are frequently despised because it is generally believed that only nonviolence played a role in India’s freedom. The film’s goal is clear: to familiarize us with Savarkar’s early life, high points during his time in England when he partnered with India House and the Free India Society, his arrest by the British Police, his time spent in prison, and his numerous appeals for mercy to British authorities as a political prisoner. Bold newspaper headlines are used to highlight the rise and fall of Savarkar.
In the movie, Randeep Hooda stands out
Randeep Hooda, who plays the movie’s lead part and is also recognized as its director, co-writer, and co-producer, is unquestionably the highlight of the whole production, good as it may be. It is both impossible to overlook and difficult to see at the same time his amazing physical metamorphosis (dropping 30 kg), with his ribs exposed and teeth falling out.
There are numerous graphic images of him being brutally assaulted when incarcerated in the infamous cellular jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as his time spent in solitary confinement at Kaalapani, all of which leave you feeling sick to your stomach. He makes an impression whether playing a defenseless prisoner or a valiant commander. Hooda’s portrayal of Savarkar, including his body language, dialogue delivery, and voice-over, is just amazing and further demonstrates his acting prowess.
