Spanish woman filed a case against rapers:
Pitamber Singh Kherwar, the Dumka SP, told reporters that the three arrested people were placed in judicial custody on Sunday. “All of the defendants were from Kunjo and the nearby villages under the Hansdiha police station. All are first-time offenders according to the investigation thus far, but a thorough investigation is ongoing,” the SP stated.
In her FIR, the survivor also stated that several of the perpetrators spoke a few words in English as they walked up to them that evening.
According to Kherwar, some of them may have gone to work as migrant laborers outside and picked up some basic English vocabulary. We are looking into their histories, both educational and otherwise.
The woman’s statement was recorded in front of First Class Judicial Magistrate Sarthak Sharma’s court, according to the SP. He claimed, “We would prepare a watertight case against the accused to ensure severest punishment for them,” and that the woman’s medical checkup had verified that she had been raped by gang members.
Data on rape cases in India by the National Crime Records Bureau:
According to AFP, a different international news organization, there were approximately 90 reported rapes in India per day on average in 2022, based on data from the National Crime Records Bureau.
It also stated that a lot of cases remain unreported because of the stigma that surrounds victims and the public’s mistrust in police investigations. It stated that convictions were still uncommon and that cases would often languish for years in India’s congested criminal court system.
The awful incident brought attention to India’s high rate of sexual violence, prompted weeks of protests, and ultimately resulted in a change in the legislation that allowed for the death sentence for rape, according to AFP, which highlighted the 2012 Nirbhaya case.
According to Al Jazeera, women from minority tribal populations are disproportionately vulnerable to sexual violence, which is a widespread occurrence in India. “Suspect conviction rates are low and there are social stigmas associated with speaking out about crime,” the statement read.
The NCRB report, which listed 31,516 rape cases in 2022, was also mentioned. It said, “The states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number of cases.”
