Musheer Khan smashed a double century in the Ranji Trophy 2024 quarterfinal against Baroda. Entering at No. 3, Musheer struck 18 boundaries on his way to a double century and created an outstanding 181-stand with Hardik Tamore for the sixth wicket, which helped the team captained by Ajinkya Rahane escape a precarious situation.
In the Ranji Trophy 2024 quarterfinal at the BKC Ground on Saturday, Musheer Khan struck his first-ever double-century in First-Class cricket and led Mumbai to a dominating lead over Baroda.
Musheer Khan Sarfaraz’s Younger Brother smashed double ton
His younger brother Musheer Khan has taken after him in terms of scoring big hundreds. His achievements in local cricket is well known, having got big runs in club cricket and for Mumbai in age-group tournaments, including a triple hundred (339) in a U-15 CK Nayudu Trophy match against Hyderabad in 2023.
In Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match against Baroda at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy field on Saturday, he accomplished the same feat at the senior level by turning his overnight hundred into a double century for the team.
He batted at No. 3 and in an innings that took nearly nine hours, he scored 203 off 357 balls. The 18-year-old scored more than half of Mumbai’s 384 runs, demonstrating a valuable effort. In response, the Baroda top-order took a constructive stance in spite of losing Priyanshu Moliya early. The visitors were 257 runs behind at 127/2 at the conclusion of the second day’s play. Mumbai’s bowlers are up against it, especially considering how freely left-hander Shashwat Rawat batted during his unbeaten 69 (88 balls). Captain of Baroda, Vishnu Solanki, is batting at 23.
MATCH SUMMARY:
After his side lost four wickets in the first over, Musheer took no chances and stuck to playing close to the ground the entire time, hitting eighteen fours and zero sixes. Given the difficulty and caliber of Baroda’s bowling assault, it is noteworthy that Hardik Tamore’s 57 was Mumbai’s second-highest score. For each run, the two had to put forth a lot of effort. Playing out 248 balls to help add 181 runs for the sixth wicket, the keeper-batter provided Musheer with strong support.
Resuming on the overnight total of 248/5, the two added a further 75 runs on the second morning. In a bid to unsettle the set right-hand batting pair, Baroda captain even made his pacers switch to bowling bouncers from around the wicket.
Even when his India U-19 teammate Raj Limbani struck him in the helmet on run 156, Musheer persisted. Left-arm pacer Lukman Meriwala delivered a well-aimed bouncer, but Musheer corrected by leaning back to touch it over the keeper for his 15th four and elevate himself to 168. Between protracted defensive stages, Tamore cover forced Meriwala to enter his forties. Entertainer Mahesh Pithiya was hit for his third boundary as he danced down the track to celebrate turning fifty in style.
When left-arm spinner Ninad Rathwa produced an outside edge to have Tamore caught at slip by Jyotsnil Singh, the partnership was ultimately broken at 323.
After noon wickets fell rapidly. The hosts lost their final four wickets for 40 runs after Musheer reached his double hundred, but the tailenders could not provide any resistance.
There is ample time for the match to last the entire five days because it is a five-day match. The Baroda hitters understand that it will be difficult to bat last and that they must make the opening innings matter.
