Richard Gleeson, an England pacer, was added to the Chennai Super Kings squad to replace Devon Conway. Due to an injury, the New Zealand opener will not play in the 2024 IPL.
Conway, who spent the previous two seasons playing for CSK, participated in 23 games and amassed 924 runs, with nine half-centuries and a career-high 92*. But he never made it to India for this version. Though it wasn’t to be, the CSK administration had hoped that the left-hander would be available for the second half of the competition.
Gleeson’s arrival will improve CSK’s bowling assault. The right-arm bowler has taken nine wickets in six Twenty20 Internationals for England. Gleeson has also amassed 101 T20 wickets and played 90 T20s. At his reserve price of ₹50 Lakh, he will join CSK.
Following their convincing victory over the Mumbai Indians in their previous game, CSK will take on the Lucknow Super Giants on Friday on the two-paced field at Ekana Stadium.

But the arrival of Gleeson could help CSK bridge the gap left by Mustafizur Rahman’s absence. The Bangladeshi left-arm seamer, who presently holds the record for most wickets taken by CSK (10 strikes), has been given permission by the BCB to participate in the IPL through May 1.
Gleeson, 36, is a late bloomer who debuted professionally at Northamptonshire at the age of 27. In the T20 Blast of 2016, he then became Northamptonshire’s second-highest wicket-taker with 14 strikes in ten games at an economy rate of less than six.
At the age of 34, Gleeson made his debut for England on the international scene in 2022 at Edgbaston when he removed Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant in the first eight deliveries of a Twenty20 match. This summer, he is going to move into the ground.
Although Gleeson hasn’t played in the IPL before, he has played for the Manchester Originals in the Hundred, the Rangpur Riders in the BPL, the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL, the Super Giants of Durban in the SA20, and the Gulf Giants in the ILT20.
Gleeson has played 90 T20 matches overall and has amassed 101 wickets at an economy rate of 8.18.

CSK has had a respectable IPL 2024 season thus far. Before falling to DC and SRH, the two began the competition with back-to-back victories at home against GT and RCB. After arriving home, CSK defeated KKR. At the Wankhede Stadium, CSK overcame MI to extend their winning streak. On April 18, the team captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad will take on the Lucknow Super Giants.
