The biggest and most prominent stock market in India is the NSE (National Stock market). With a market valuation of more than US$ 3.4 trillion, it has grown to be the tenth largest stock exchange globally.
All year round, the NSE operates efficient and seamless trading facilities. On weekdays, it is open for trading from 9.15 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. (regular session), providing a 6 hour and 15 minute trading session. On Saturdays and Sundays, NSE trade holidays are observed. There is no trading on the stock sector, equity derivative section, or SLB segment on these trading holidays in 2024.

- Monday, May 20, 2024, will be a holiday for the Indian stock markets due to the Mumbai parliamentary elections.
- On Saturday, March 2, 2024, NSE will hold a unique live trading session during which the equities and equity derivatives segments will undergo an intra-day switchover from the primary site to the disaster recovery site. There will be two stages to the session. First part will begin at 9:15 a.m. and last for 45 minutes. Second phase will be a special live trading session that begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m.
- According to an NSE notification, on January 20, 2024, markets would remain open till 3:30 PM. On January 22, 2024, a trading holiday will be observed in accordance with the Negotiable Instrument Act.
