In India, Hero MotoCorp has introduced the Hero Mavrick 440, a middleweight motorcycle. Can it, however, meet the requirements to top the charts.
Hero MotoCorp has long held the top spot in the global rankings. However, that has only been based on sales figures, which are reliant on motorcycles that are meant for entry-level commuters. The business does, however, also hope to establish itself as a major force in the premium market. Bikes such as the Harley-Davidson X440, Karizma XMR, and Xpulse have become popular as a result. But now is the moment to challenge the Mavrick 440, the reigning champion of middleweight motorcycles.
Hero Mavrick 440: Chassis and engine
The Mavrick 440 shares its chassis with the Harley X440, using the same Trellis frame. To fit the roadster style, the back end has been modified, though. The engine is also still the same. The 440cc, two-valve, air-oil cooled engine produces 27 horsepower and 36 Nm of torque. Hero has also improved the bike’s exhaust note, giving it a distinctive soundscape in addition to a more stylish appearance. There are two adjustable shocks in the rear suspension system. The bike weights 187 kg, which is a manageable amount for most people.
Hero Mavrick 440: Design and features
The Harley-Davidson X440, which was jointly produced by Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp, and the Mavrick 440 are based on the same platform. But unlike the Hero, which is more of a roadster, the Harley was designed to be a cruiser. In terms of design, the Mavrick 440 appears more proportionate. The bike has large 43mm telescopic forks up front and 17-inch alloy wheels. In addition to being entirely LED, the headlamp has a sensor that turns on the lights as it gets dark.
The instrument panel has many features, including Bluetooth connectivity, and is entirely digital. But the device is a little small, and the text is particularly difficult to read while moving. With its neutral footpeg placement, comfortable 803mm seat height, and broad handlebar, the Mavrick 440 is sure to provide hours of enjoyable riding. The fuel tank has a capacity of 13.5 liters, making it a rather sizable item. This suggests that the Mavrick 440 will have a long range. There’s a tiny USB charging plug inside the fuel tank as well. This is useful for keeping gadgets charged while out and about when a phone is put on the handlebar. The basic design is completed with a little but brilliant light at the back.
Hero Mavrick 440: Performance
We covered around 300 miles on the Mavrick 440 in just one and a half days, so it was quite the journey. This gave us the opportunity to use the bike in a variety of situations. The Mavrick 440 feels effortless to use at modest speeds. The bike can reach 50 km/h in fifth gear with no noise and plenty of bottom-end torque thanks to the long-stroke engine. But when you crank the throttle, the bike accelerates without whining or requiring a downshift. This makes it much easier for the user to ride a bike in the city. The light clutch is an addition to it.
After entering Gujarat and traveling to the Rann of Kutch, the Mavrick 440 showed itself to be a quite competent mile-eater. On empty sections, the motor operates at about 100 kmph with no signs of strain at all. The motor actually expresses a desire to go farther. I floored it as we reached a vast, empty swath of land with miles and miles of emptiness in between. The speedometer shot beyond the 120 kmph mark and continued to climb faster. I backed off at about 139 kmph, but the motor still had some more to offer. Even though some sensations and other things did sneak in at these speeds, the bike stays calm and smooth until it reaches 120 kmph.
Hero Mavrick 440: Ride and handling
When it comes to ride quality, the Mavrick 440 impresses as well. The roads we were riding on were fairly good but still had patches of undulating tarmac which propped up as a surprise. The Mavrick 440 on these roads held its composure very well. To be honest, the bike felt very comfortable with the suspension absorbing the surface with ease. Only a deep pothole now and then was felt and that too was not bone jarringly hard. Around corners too the Mavrick 440 holds its ground well. The bike tips in and there’s a great deal of confidence the rider derives from the motorcycle.
Hero Mavrick 440 price
In February, when reservations for the Hero Mavrick 440 will open, prices will be disclosed. Its competitors are the Harley-Davidson X440 (ex-showroom price of Rs. 2.29 lakh), Royal Enfield Hunter 350 (ex-showroom price of Rs. 1.49 lakh), Triumph Speed 400 (the ex-showroom price of Rs. 2.33 lakh), Honda CB300R (ex-showroom price of Rs. 2.4 lakh), and KTM 390 Duke (ex-showroom price of Rs. 3.10 lakh).
Hero Mavrick 444: Conclusion
Hero MotoCorp is undoubtedly making the right decisions with its products. One aspect of the Mavrick 440 that appeals to Indians is its well-designed mass-adding feature. A lengthy list of features that are useful again are added to it. We particularly adore the automated headlamps that properly utilize the LED DRLs, which otherwise just light up the headlights randomly. The motor is suitable for riding conditions in India because it is a smooth operator and provides decent low-end torque. It rides fairly nicely, too. When combined with the alluring pricing, the Mavrick 440 is a wise choice. All that remains for the business to do is clean up its network so that.
